RECLAIM YOUR HEART, YASMIN MOGAHED
Reading reclaim your heart is by far the best Islamic book I’ve read. It is soothing, like when I was down with cold or flu and visiting doctor it made everything well, back on track. I remember when I first read the book, I was lost, trying to find reason why people leave, why do I get depressed too often even when I don’t intend to, why do I keep questioning, over analyse everything. The book, for me, has all the answers. It soothes your aching self and heart. It heals you.
As a whole, this book tries to tell you that what you feel is mere attachment. You’re too attach with yourself, with the worldly affair that sometimes it is kind of… sickening. So in order to heal yourself, you need to let your attachment go, one at a time. Also at the same time, it tries to remind us that how well we plan our live accordingly, how well we want to direct our lives to our preferred that Allah is the best planner.
88 LOVE LIFE, DIANA RIKASARI
#88LOVELIFE has always been a delightful series that never fails to make me smile. It is a must have in your collection. All volume! I remember my friends told me Best Eastern sold out just in few days. But I was lucky to get mine in Jakarta, when I did my exchange programme. Extremely heartwarming and relevant to our daily struggles, this book will definitely change your perspective towards life. Not to forget, the books are filled with illustrations that will certainly cheer up your day and everytime you open a page it makes you want to take a picture of it (just to show off on your Instagram hehe).
The first volume is 88 Thoughts on Love and Life. it is about the author’s daily thoughts on her love and life experience. Expect lots of good energy and beautiful illustrations inside this book.
The second volume is the sequel to the first one, consisting of quotes and stories on love and life. The sequel offers a happy approach on overcoming sadness, failures, worries and changes in life – all written in a light and easy manner. Expect more good energy and more eye-pleasing illustrations that will brighten up your mind and day.
In the third volume, the author takes us for a trip to reality where dreams and passion meets priorities, causing dilemmas and the need to make big adjustments in life.
MIND PLATTER, NAJWA ZEBIAN
Mind Platter is a reflection on life through the eyes of the author, Najwa Zebian. Who is an educator, student and human who experienced most of life in silence. It is written in the voice of every person who ever felt unheard, mistreated, misjudged or unseen. It is a compilation of reflections on different topics that we encounter in our everyday lives; love, friendship, hurt, inspiration, respect, wholeheartedness, motivation, integrity, honesty and more. Najwa hoped this book would inspire her readers as it is not about the words she wrote but the message (reflections) behind it.
WHEN WINGS EXPAND, MEHDED MARYAM SINCLAIR
This book is a journal of a teenage girl, Nur, in Canada charts the onset and advance of her mother’s cancer. She witnesses her mother’s body starting to shrink and her mood begins to change.
It is meant for young adult audiences but it is also suitable for people of all ages. There’s something beautiful about reading a novel that’s fictional in nature but has great lessons and reminds you of Allah. It genuinely brought a smile to my face seeing ayat of the Qur’an interwoven into the narrative. There are also a lot of beautiful metaphors and imagery about life in the book. It’s a novel about dealing with pain, grief and finding your path back to Allah but most importantly, it is also a book about triumph!
Similarly to Reclaim Your Heart, our attachment to this world is often what brings us the most pain. We hold on tightly to things that we already know are not permanent. It’s crucial that when find ourselves in difficult situations that rock our faith, we have to open our mouths, both to ask for Allah’s help and the help of those around us. There’s no shame in that.
